TRIANGLE EMPLOYMENT STILL STRONG
Triangle, North Carolina. November Unemployment Rate 3.8%. In November the job market in Raleigh-Cary increased by 2,300. Government, health, trade, utilities, education and transportation led the way. BY the same token 600 jobs were lost. As you might guess, most of those were construction jobs. The Durham job market grew by 2,100 jobs in trade, education, health and transportation. The 500 jobs lost were mostly in leisure and hospitality.
For 2008 John Silvia, chief economist at Wachovia, predicts that Raleigh will see a 2% to 4% expansion in its economy. The Raleigh job market is different that the nation’s and, for that matter, the rest of the state. The manufacturing section accounts for 10.4% of the jobs nationwide, 13.8% in North Carolina but only 6.6% in Raleigh. Raleigh is still a job destination location. For example, the areas universities have been a job draw for a long time and continue to be. The talent that comes to them wants to stay. Another strong job center is that of information technology. It accounts for 3.2% of the work force.
