NORTH CAROLINA DEMOGRAPHICS

North Carolina.  Who are we?  What is the composition of North Carolina’s population?  To begin with there are 8.9 million North Carolinians - (+2.2% from 2005).  There are 6.1 million non-Hispanic whites - (+1.6% from 2005), 2 million blacks - (+2.1% from 2005), 603,000 Hispanics - (+ 7% from 2005), 191,000 Asians - (+3.2% from 2005) and 145,000 American Indians - (+1.9% from 2005).  The state’s median age is 36.4 years.  A whole lot of movin’ and shakin’ and changin’ going on.
